I was browsing my old blog posts, and saw this one. I think it does an amazing job at explaining the science behind the keto diet.  So I decided to recreate it, with a few minor changes. A few of these changes are based on my experience with the keto diet, and the improvements I’ve made to it.  These practices can help you lose weight, improve energy levels, and feel better than you have in years.

The ketogenic diet, also referred to as the keto diet, is a very low-carb, high-fat diet. It has been described as the most effective diet for weight loss, overall health, and diabetes treatment by medical professionals. It is based on the principle that when your body does not have enough carbohydrates to survive, it will then break down stored fat into fatty acids and use them to produce the energy that the body needs.. What is the definition of Chicken Parmesan?

Chicken Parmigiana, commonly known as Chicken Parmesan or Chicken Parm, is an Italian-inspired dish. In Italian, Pollo Alla Parmigiana is a crispy breaded chicken breast topped with tomato sauce and shredded cheese. You may sometimes add ham or bacon.

The dish is similar to melanzane alla parmigiana, except instead of chicken breasts, it utilizes fried sliced eggplant.

This recipe is a favorite at Italian-American restaurants and is one of the most popular chicken dishes on the planet.

Is Chicken Parmesan on the Keto Diet?

Traditional chicken parmesan uses flour, egg, and bread crumbs, none of which are keto-friendly. However, keto-friendly items like parmesan cheese and almond flour may readily substitute those components.

Don’t be concerned. The chicken is juicy, delicious, and topped with a generous amount of cheese. By far my favorite chicken dish is this baked chicken parmesan!

The minute I tried this dish, I’ll never forget it. I was in Italy with my family, and after a long day of sightseeing, we chose to dine at a seafood restaurant. We placed our orders, but since my Italian was lacking, I ended up with Chicken Parmesan on my dish, which irritated me at first. But believe me when I say that when I took my first taste of this wonderful meal, I froze. The taste of this Chicken Parmesan is incredible, the texture is wonderfully crispy, and the cheese…oh, the cheese was melting, and I didn’t stop eating until the dish was clear and the chicken had vanished. It was served over al dente spaghetti, as I recall! Incredible!

Since then, I’ve been on a quest to discover the ultimate keto chicken parmesan dish. What’s more, guess what? That’s correct, I discovered it.

Guys, believe me when I say that this dish is delicious.

Chicken Parmesan Ingredients

You just need a few easily available pantry items to make this tasty chicken parmesan:

  • Chicken Breast – split the chicken breast lengthwise into 2 or 3 pieces, depending on size, to speed up the cooking process.
  • Stick to the chicken with the eggs to assist the flour mixture. Whisk one egg together to create the egg wash.
  • Parmesan Cheese — For a traditional “chicken parmesan” taste, I suggest adding grated parmesan cheese in the breading.
  • Almond Flour is used to make the dish grain-free and low-carb. Use whatever flour you have on hand if you don’t care about carbohydrates.
  • Butter & Oil – To pan-fry the chicken and get it nice and crispy. You’ll need frying oil with a high smoke point. I love using both butter and olive oil, but you can use avocado oil.
  • Garlic — garlic powder may be used, but fresh garlic is preferable!
  • Sweetness – you may be wondering why this recipe calls for sweetener. The sugar, on the other hand, will eliminate the sauce’s acidic flavor. Yes, we’ll create the sauce from scratch, but if you’re pressed for time, your favorite Marinara Sauce will suffice.
  • Mozzarella Cheese – Shredded or sliced mozzarella cheese may be used.
  • Italian Seasoning — I like the flavor of homemade Italian Seasoning, but store-bought would suffice.

Is it Possible to Make Chicken Parmesan in an Air Fryer?

Yes, you may use an Air Fryer to air fry your chicken for this dish. Simply brush the crumbed chicken breast with olive oil, put it in the air fryer basket, and cook for 8 minutes. This Keto Chicken Parmesan dish is a tried-and-true favorite in our house. What’s not to love about a parmesan-crusted chicken that’s wonderfully juicy, then topped with a delectable tomato sauce and a liberal sprinkling of shredded cheese? Even better, this chicken parmesan dish is grain-free, gluten-free, and kid-friendly, as well as fast, simple, and tasty to prepare!

  • 2-3 big 1 1/2 pound chicken breasts, cut lengthwise
  • 1 tsp seasoning (Italian)
  • Season with salt and pepper to taste.

Egg Wash

  • 2 large eggs, whisked together until frothy
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • a half teaspoon of Italian seasoning
  • Season with salt and pepper to taste.

Breading:

  • 1/2 cup freshly grated parmesan cheese
  • 3 tablespoons almond flour or coconut flour

Topping

  • 4 oz. sliced or shredded mozzarella cheese
  • Optional: a pinch of crushed red pepper flakes
  • 2 tbsp basil or parsley, freshly chopped
  • Prep the chicken: Trim the chicken breasts and cut them in half lengthwise with a sharp knife to make 4-6 thick cutlets. On both sides, season with Italian Seasoning, salt, and pepper.
  • To make the egg wash, whisk together the eggs, chopped garlic, Italian Seasoning, and a sprinkle of salt and pepper in a small dish. In a mixing bowl, combine the chicken and the egg mixture.
  • In a separate shallow dish, combine the parmesan cheese and almond flour for the coating.
  • To make the tomato sauce, sauté the onion in a medium-sized saucepan over medium heat until transparent and aromatic. Combine the tomato puree, herbs, salt, and pepper in a mixing bowl. Cook, stirring periodically, for approximately 5 minutes, or until the sauce seems thickened.
  • Cook – Dredge the chicken in the parmesan mixture using a fork or tongs to cover both sides. Repeat with the remaining chicken cutlets, shaking off the excess.
  • Fry – Heat olive oil and butter in a nonstick pan over medium heat. Fry 2 pieces of parmesan-coated chicken at a time for approximately 4 minutes. THE CHICKEN SHOULD NOT BE MOVED, AS THE COATING MAY STICK TO THE PAN.
  • Flip the chicken over and heat until crispy and golden brown on the second side. Carry on with the rest of the chicken.
  • Assemble the dish — In a large oiled baking dish, spread half of the tomato sauce on the bottom. Place the chicken on top and season with chili flakes. Add the remaining sauce, mozzarella, and parmesan cheese on the top. 5-10 minutes on the broiler, until the cheese is melted and bubbling. When an instant-read thermometer registers 165 degrees Fahrenheit, the chicken is done.
  • Serve immediately with basil or parsley that has been finely chopped.
