There are many misconceptions about eating low carb. I know because I picked up a pair of running shoes a few years ago and fell off the wagon after a week or so. It wasn’t until I started reading the comments on low carb blogs that I realized I wasn’t alone.

The low-carb diet craze is real. For the last few years, people have been cutting way back on carbs and ridding their diets of processed foods in an effort to achieve a leaner physique. But for some, this approach can have disastrous results.

You might have heard that low carb diets are the key to lasting weight loss. While the idea of eating fewer carbs sounds like a good plan, this concept can be hard to implement since many people are used to the way they eat.. Here’s the deal: since the low carb diet has been a hot topic of late, it’s no surprise that a lot of people are trying it, but what they don’t realize is that it’s not all that easy to stick to. The research on low carb diets has shown that some adapt to the carb-free lifestyle, but others who try it fall off the wagon. They blame the carb-free diet for their weight gain, and will go on to blame the carb-free diet for the high-sugar content of their children’s schools. The key is to start low, slowly adjust, and then keep your eye on the prize. To help you on your way, we’ve outlined some great healthy low carb recipes to try

Carbs are akin to gasoline in the car of your body, and you can’t expect to drive a long distance without refueling in between. Despite the general consensus that low carb is key to weight management, many people are getting stuck. Getting stuck is a common issue for those who try to lose weight or keep it off, and often results in weight gain, which is a real problem for those who want to live a healthy lifestyle.

If you’re gaining weight on a low-carb diet, what should you do? Is it OK for kids to have cheat meals while on a low-carb diet? Is it possible to lose weight on a moderate-calorie diet without monitoring carbs?

I’m gaining inches and weight.

Hi,

I’ve always been overweight; I’m 5 feet (152 cm) tall and weigh 198 pounds (90 kg), so I have a lot of weight to shed. I’ve been following the LCHF diet for five weeks.

I dropped 7.3 pounds (3 kg) and 1.5 inches (4 cm) off my waist in the first week. Then came the state fair, and I didn’t stick to the diet. I anticipated gaining, and I did. That was a couple of weeks ago. Since then, I’ve been back on track.

I was drinking bulletproof coffee in the morning and suggesting lunch and supper meals with 20 grams of carbohydrates. I lost one pound (0.5 kg). I didn’t eat till supper yesterday; I had bulletproof coffee for morning and beef broth with butter for lunch. I gained 1.5 pounds the day before yesterday (1 kg).

I understand that the scale isn’t the greatest monitor. I’ve lost 0.8 pounds (0.5 kg) and 0.5 inch (1 cm) in my waist since the first week. I stretch but do not exercise since I am always tired.

I’m also talking to a naturalist about taking two tablespoons of Kyo Green and one teaspoon of Perfect 7 after breakfast and one spoonful of Kyo Green and one teaspoon of Perfect 7 after lunch. It doesn’t indicate how many carbohydrates are in it, if any. For heartburn, I also take HCL with pepsin, magnesium, and salmon oil.

May God bless you for assisting others. Melissa

Hello, Melissa.

It’s extremely encouraging to lose 7 pounds (3 kg) in the first week. But be aware that the weight on the scale may vary by several pounds from day to day — this is just water weight, so the long-term trend is what counts.

If you require Bulletproof coffee to feel good in the mornings, go ahead and use it, but if you can switch to black coffee or coffee with just a splash of milk and still feel good, that will speed things up even more.

LCHF and a 13-year-old

Hello,

My husband and I have been following the life-changing LCHF diet, and our 13-year-old son shares our basic meals. He does, however, go to many social gatherings or visits friends’ houses, where he eats high-carb snacks and, on rare occasions, a dinner.

Will his health suffer as a result of this LCHF and high-sugar snack combination? According to the BMI chart, he is somewhat overweight, but he has no health issues. I don’t want him to feel limited at such a young age, but I also don’t want this combo to be risky.

Thank you very much! Debra

If he’s a little overweight and wants to lose weight, I believe it’s fantastic that he cooks LCHF meals at home. It should not be a big issue to have a higher carb meal every now and then. It is not necessary for teenagers to follow a rigorous LCHF diet all of the time in order to benefit from it.

Will I lose weight if I simply stick to the moderate carb menu and don’t monitor my carbs?

Will I still lose weight if I start the moderate low-carb plan on this site? I’m just eating meals from the menus and following the recipes to the letter, but I’m not counting anything. Or do you want to gain weight? Do I have to keep track of my carbs? Or should I simply stick to the breakfast, lunch, and supper menus?

Beverly

You don’t have to keep track of your carbohydrates. It’s not calculating calories that makes a difference; it’s cutting down on carbohydrates. Following our recipes, for example, should be sufficient to ensure success.
